When to plant Sage
A handsome woody perennial with soft grey-green leaves, hardy in most zones. It dislikes wet feet and gets leggy with age, so a light prune in spring keeps it productive. Its spring flowers are loved by bees.

How to grow Sage
Sage is usually started indoors and transplanted out, giving this hardy crop the head start it needs. Give it full sun and space plants about 18 inches apart. It takes roughly 80 days from planting to its first harvest, so count that against your frost dates to be sure it can finish. Classic companions include cabbage, carrot, rosemary — keep away from cucumbers.
