When to plant Nasturtium
A trailing or mounding annual with edible, peppery leaves and flowers. The large seeds are easy to direct-sow but resent being moved. Poor soil gives the most flowers. It's a classic 'trap crop', luring aphids and cabbage pests away from your vegetables.

How to grow Nasturtium
Nasturtium is best direct-sown straight into the garden, as it dislikes being transplanted. Give it full sun to part shade and space plants about 10 inches apart. It takes roughly 55 days from planting to its first harvest, so count that against your frost dates to be sure it can finish. Classic companions include cucumber, squash, beans, brassicas — a sacrificial aphid trap.
Grower's tip: Edible flowers and leaves; direct-sow the large seeds where they're to grow — it resents transplanting.
